Kaua Māhoe Adams is a mixed Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) author and poet originally from Seattle, Washington. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Washington and her Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her debut young adult verse novel, AN EXPANSE OF BLUE (Heartdrum/HarperCollins), is set for publication in Summer 2026. She also has a short story in verse that will appear in Cynthia Leitch Smith’s forthcoming young adult anthology, LEGENDARY FRY-BREAD DRIVE-IN (Heartdrum/HarperCollins), and a poem that will appear in Ty Chapman and Ari Tison’s forthcoming poetry anthology, ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE (Lerner).
Kaua lives in sunny southern California on a bird sanctuary, with her fiancé and their two spirited pups, Guava and Lei.
